A littel about Catherine... Catherine Whitting has a 20 year portfolio of practice as a professionally trained visual artist and is also a qualified interior designer and art and design teacher with TAFENSW. Her work is held in over 25 private collections throughout Sydney, Regional NSW, Northern Queensland, The Northern Territory, Christchurch New Zealand, and England Catherine Whitting as born in 1974 in Australia and has spent her life in Sydney’s inner west. Whitting studied at Sydney College of the Arts where she completed her Visual Arts degree with a major in fine arts and design theory followed by post graduate university study in art and design education. She has since spent the past 20 years, sharing her love of painting and design with high school and tertiary visual arts and design students, working at TAFENSW Enmore Design Centre and Lidcombe Design whilst coordinating Federation Universities Bachelor of Applied Management of Design. Whitting has exhibited her work throughout Australia and New Zealand since 1992 in public exhibitions and competitions. Whitting employs an impasto style of painting in her artmaking, she weaves bold tactile colours with mixed media, such as newsprint and found objects in a three dimensional manner with fast sweeping motions. Her paintings are curated for her interiors, are emotive and executed with speed. These works are often are abstract recounts of detailed vignettes founds in nature from her experiences and travels to Europe and Asia. Elements of wear and notions of time are celebrated through colour, form and texture. She has a passion for integrating art and the community and has participated in numerous volunteer art programs for local councils and disadvantaged groups including auctioning large scale original artworks on canvas each year for charity at the Northcote Societies Beaux Arts Ball along side the likes of Ken Done, David Boyd, Geoff Dwyer and Pro Hart.
