Catherine WhittingMore on this collaboration later. Its early days. But I am teaming up with abstract artist, interior designer and passionate colour expert Catherine Whitting to create something amazing.

I wanted to do something that really connected people. Something I could share that would make a difference. I have certainly done sell-out shows just being on stage and playing the guitar. Hey, the guitar is an amazing instrument!
I wanted to take the real me and work out how I could share the parts that would create a REAL EXPERIENCE. So, let's combine my love of acoustic guitar, improvised music (I won't say jazz because I draw from multiple genres), my love of beauty and art, and my deep love of storytelling. Next step.... WHAT DOES THIS LOOK LIKE? Nice concept, but hmmmm. I have been touring with the amazing Megan Albany's production called THE VERY LAST LIST OF VIVIAN WALKER. If you haven't read the book or scene the theatre production, YOU ARE MISSING OUT. It really is an experience. Its a beautiful, honest, hilarious, emotional deep dive into marriage, parenting, friendships, self-worth and dying. I've never had a consistently passionate audience response like we've had at every show with this production. People come out transformed and entertained and feeling heard and understood. Doing this show really gave me clarity around what I want the audience to walk away with. So rather than an indulgent concert of me playing what I want, the way I want to regardless of who's in the room and whether they can relate to the music or not, I have crafted a show that invites you into my world little by little until you are immersed and transported into a world where colours and ideas make sounds that you can recognise and be moved by. My favourite part of the show is the "aha" moment when you start to join the dots between what we all see and what that might sound like. Its a total buzz. And it happens quickly even if you have had no prior music experience. This is more about being human and having feelings than it is about any level of understanding. All I can tell you is it is an experience that opens your eyes and ears to a whole new, fun perspective on the world. There is even a little audience participation. oooooooh. Don't worry. Its as a group, you won't stand out. If you chose to you will participate collectively. Its safe. OK. I've got some practice to do. And phone calls to make. See you out there. |
